KOLKATA: Twelve mentors of the Guwahati-bound Bikaner Express wrecked in the Moynaguri locale of north Bengal on Thursday evening, leaving five travelers dead and many harmed.
Jalpaiguri area officer Moumita Godara Basu said five bodies have been found till 7pm and more than 20 travelers with wounds were raced to the nearby Moynaguri government medical clinic. Around 15 travelers are accounted for to be in basic condition. An exceptional train from Jalpaiguri arrived at the mishap site at around 7 pm to take the harmed to the medical clinic.

Where the train with 577 travelers met with the mishap is important for the Alipuarduar part of the Northeast Frontier Railway.
A railroads representative said the mishap occurred at 5pm, almost seven minutes after the express train passed the New Domohani station.
“12 mentors leaped off the tracks of which two overturned,” Guneet Kaur, boss public connection official of Northeast Frontier Railway said.
The greater part of the travelers were going to Assam. Kaur said travelers who were not harmed in the mishap will be taken to Guwahati on a different train.
Jalpaiguri region judge Moumita Godara Basu said they were getting generators to illuminate the region. “All divisions have been alarmed. Salvage staff are being hurried from all areas,” Basu said.

In New Delhi, the railroads requested a significant level investigation into the mishap by the rail route security chief.

“There were not an excessive number of travelers in the train due to the Covid pandemic (limitations),” Dilip Kumar Singh, divisional railroad director of the Alipuarduar segment of the Northeast Frontier Railway, told columnists.
“A few groups are hurrying to the spot. I’m coming. This is an instance of wrecking. Our men are putting forth attempts to safeguard the harmed. We have no accurate figure on setbacks,” said Singh.
