Yashoda Maiya told them that, if it is the grace of Lord Indra Dev, then there is good rain, due to which the production of our food is good and our animals get fodder. After listening to the mother, Lord Krishna said that, if we should worship the Govardhan mountain, because our cows graze there and it is only because of the trees and plants that it rains.

After listening to Lord Krishna, the people of Gokul started worshiping Govardhan Parvat, Lord Indra got angry after seeing all this and he considered it as his insult and started torrential rain to take revenge on the people of Braj. The rain was so devastating that the people of Gokul got scared. Then Lord Krishna raised the Govardhan mountain on his finger and all the people came and stood under it.

Lord Indra rained continuously for 7 days and Lord Krishna lifted this mountain for 7 days. Lord Krishna did not allow a single Gokul resident and animals to be harmed, nor did he allow them to get wet in the rain. Then Lord Indra realized that no ordinary man can compete with him. When he came to know that the contestant is Lord Krishna himself, he apologized for his mistake and offered him himself by worshiping Murlidhar and it is believed that since then the Govardhan Puja started.
