Helicopter Crash: Captain Varun Singh, who survived the military helicopter crash in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, has lost the battle of life today. Let us tell you that for the last few days, he was undergoing treatment in a hospital in Bangalore, where he died today after 7 days.
Captain Varun Singh is a resident of UP
Let us tell you that Captain Varun was a resident of Kanhauli village of Rudrapur tehsil of Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh. He was awarded the Shaurya Chakra by President Ram Nath Kovind on 15 August 2021 for his indomitable courage to handle his aircraft after it was hit by a major technical fault during a flight last year. He had safely landed his Tejas fighter from a height of 10,000 feet despite the mid-air emergency.
“Despite being under enormous physical and mental pressure in a highly lethal condition, he maintained his composure and saved the aircraft by displaying exceptional flying skills,” said Group Captain Singh’s citation of the award.
Officials said that his plane had completely lost control and in such a situation the pilot has full freedom to leave the plane, but he assessed the gravity of the situation and decided to fly the plane again safely.
“Despite the danger to his life, he displayed extraordinary courage to control and safely land the fighter aircraft while saving hundreds of crores of rupees. Taking a risk, the pilot landed the plane. This helped in a precise analysis of the defects in the indigenously made fighter aircraft and to take precautionary measures to prevent such incidents from happening again.
Captain Varun Singh’s father is retired from the army
Let us tell you that Wing Commander Varun Singh is the nephew of Congress’s national spokesperson and former MLA Akhilesh Pratap. Group Captain Varun Singh, his father and brother have served in three services of the Armed Forces. While Captain Varun Singh is serving in the Indian Air Force (IAF), his father, Colonel (Retd) KP Singh, was an army man in the regiment of the Army Air Defense (AAD). The son of Colonel KP Singh and the younger brother of Group Captain Varun Singh, Lieutenant Commander Tanuj Singh is an officer in the Indian Navy.
