IPL Retention : Big players Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli can be retained by their franchises, while players like KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Suresh Raina and David Warner can again join the auction.
The IPL 2022 retention deadline set by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ends on Tuesday. Most of the teams have decided on the players of their choice to be retained for the auction to be held probably in January. Eight teams can retain a maximum of 4 players each, while two other teams Lucknow and Ahmedabad will be allowed to pick up to three players from the upcoming season.
Big players Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli can be retained by their franchises, while players like KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Suresh Raina and David Warner can again join the auction. All the teams will have to submit the list of their retained players to the BCCI by Tuesday evening.
After this, from December 1 to December 25, two new teams of IPL can make any three players in their court. If the teams retain four players, then they will be able to spend 42 crores. With the remaining amount, he will have to buy the rest of the players. If three players retain, then they will be able to spend only 33 crores.
Delhi Capitals may retain skipper Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Axar Patel and South African pacer Anrich Nortje but will look to buy R Ashwin and Kagiso Rabada in the auction.
Similarly, Mumbai’s team can retain Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard apart from captain Rohit Sharma and pacer Jasprit Bumrah. There may be a competition between Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan. Hardik, who is no longer bowling, may try to buy Pandya again in a bid by not retaining Mumbai.
Special things :
The old eight franchise teams can retain a maximum of 4 players. Three players can be domestic and 1 foreign. Or two desi and two foreigners.
Two new teams can choose a maximum of 3 players (two Indians and one foreigner) from the pool of players.
The purse for 2022 will be Rs 90 crore, which was 85 crore in the previous season.
There will be no right to match option in the 2022 auction.
