Israel G20 Summit : Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Gilad Erdan on Friday teared down the annual report of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on the forum of the United Nations General Assembly.
He said that the correct place of this report is the dustbin and it is of no use. He argued that the report is against Israel and is biased. Indeed, the UN Human Rights Council on the Israel-Palestinian conflict convened a special meeting at the General Assembly, where its President Michelle Bachelet presented the annual report to all member states.
Indeed, the report presented the findings of an investigative committee set up after the Israeli occupation of Gaza, which killed 260 Palestinians, including 67 children, 40 women and 16 elderly people. Several families were killed in the attack, including senior doctor Ayman Abu al-Auf and his family. This UNHRC report condemned and criticized Israel for its brutal attacks on Gaza.
During a special hearing in the General Assembly on Friday, the President of the Human Rights Council presented the annual report of the Inquiry Committee to all the member countries. The report is the result of an investigative committee set up after the conflict with Hamas in May. The bulk of the report condemns and criticizes Israel, but ignores Hamas’ attacks on Israeli civilians.
Addressing the General Assembly, Erdan said that since its inception 15 years ago, the Human Rights Council has condemned Israel 95 times compared to 142 against all other countries in the world. He further said that the Human Rights Council is full of prejudices and has once again proved it through this report.
Before tearing up the report and leaving it on the podium, he said that its only place was the dustbin. He said that I addressed the United Nations General Assembly today. and raised their voice against the baseless, one-sided and outright false allegations of the Human Rights Council’s annual report. This year the Human Rights Council has once again let us all down. It has disappointed people around the world who suffer human rights abuses every day, every hour, every minute but their voices are not heard.
He said that it is sad that the voices of the oppressed around the world are not being heard, as the Human Rights Council is insisting on wasting its time, its budget and its resources. It is targeting my country and every kind of freedom here. In fact, the UNHRC held its special session on Friday on Myanmar, Afghanistan and the Israel-Palestinian conflict.
