Let us tell that Bihu festival is celebrated thrice in Assam. Bhogali or Magh Bihu which is celebrated in the month of January. After this Rongali or Bohag Bihu is celebrated in the month of April and finally Kongali or Kati Bihu is celebrated in the month of October.
The reason behind Kongali Bihu celebrated in the month of October is that during the time of Rongali Bihu food grains are produced in the fields here. By the time of Kati Bihu festival, the grain starts running out in the godowns and there is a situation of food shortage. In such a situation, this festival is celebrated to remove Kongali i.e. poverty and wishing that there should be good yield till the time of Magh Bihu.
Tulsi and Mata Lakshmi are worshiped at night
On the day of Kati Bihu, people especially farmers go to see their fields. Tulsi is worshiped during the night and a lamp is lit in front of the field, garden and Tulsi. On this day, there is a law to worship Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and wish her a good harvest.
