Very simple family, the world of simplicity is convinced

Lal Bahadur Shastri came from a very ordinary family. Despite his journey from a normal family to the prime minister, his lifestyle was very simple. Shastriji used to bear his personal expenses himself. It is said that even for private travel, he did not use the government vehicle. His simplicity was such that the world was also convinced of him.

Strong Intention – Indomitable Courage

India had a war with China in 1962, in which India had to face defeat. At that time, Pakistan understood this defeat as a message of its coming victory. The Ayub Khan government of Pakistan decided to take advantage of this opportunity. It was the hot summer of 1965, when he sent thousands of soldiers to Kashmir with the intention of launching Operation Gibraltar and destroying the Indian Army’s communication line.

At that time the Indian Army carried out the order given by the Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri. They crossed the international border into Punjab and entered Pakistan and launched a two-pronged attack. The second biggest mistake of the then President of Pakistan General Ayub Khan was Operation Grand Slam. As part of this operation some orders were given to the Tank and Crack Infantry Regiments of Pakistan.

Those orders were to cross Chhamb-Jauriyan. This was the first time in history that the Indian Army not only crossed the international border but also attacked Lahore under the leadership of Major General Prasad. Shastri’s strategy was to attack Sialkot and Lahore. To say, Shastri ji believed in non-violence but kept his motherland above all. Therefore, it was also acceptable to kill enemies to protect him.

In 1965, America threatened to stop sending wheat

When the war between India and Pakistan was going on in the year 1965, then US President Lyndon Johnson threatened Shastri that if he did not stop the war against Pakistan, he would stop the wheat that America sends. At that time India was not self-sufficient in the production of wheat. Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri was shocked by this. He appealed to the countrymen that we will not take one meal at a time.

There will be no need for wheat coming from America. On the appeal of Shastri, at that time lakhs of Indians had stopped eating food at one time. Before appealing to the countrymen, Shastri himself did not eat one time meal in his house and neither did his family eat food. They wanted to see if their children could go hungry. When he saw that he and his children could live without eating food for a time, then he appealed to the countrymen.
