National Education Day 2021: Know why National Education Day is celebrated and its importance

New Delhi: National Education Day 2021 is celebrated every year in the country on 11 November. This day is celebrated on the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first Education Minister of India. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad served as the Education Minister of the country from 15 August 1947 to 2 February 1958. In the year 2008, his birthday was recognized as Education Day by the Ministry of Human Resource Development. Since then every year on 11th November is celebrated as Education Day.

Significance of National Education Day

Azad, the first Union Education Minister of India, has contributed a lot to improve the education level of the country. It was during his tenure that the country’s first Indian Institute of Technology was established in the year 1951 and the University Grants Commission in the year 1953.

Special events are organized

On the day of National Education Day, the contributions of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad are remembered. On the day of Maulana Azad’s birth anniversary, special programs are organized in the schools and colleges of the country and competitions are held among the children.

Awarded with Bharat Ratna

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was awarded the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest honor, by the Government of India in the year 1992. This honor was given to him posthumously. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad died on 22 February 1958 in Delhi.
