Pradosh Vrat that falls on Sunday is called Ravi Pradosh Vrat. Pradosh Vrat is observed on Trayodashi Tithi of every month. Pradosh fast is observed twice in a month. Pradosh Vrat Katha : According to the legend, there lived a Brahmin in a town. Her husband had passed away. She no longer had any support, so she used to go out to beg with her son in the morning. She took care of herself and her son.
One day the Brahmin was returning home when he found a boy moaning in an injured condition. The Brahmin brought him to her home out of kindness. The boy was the prince of Vidarbha. Enemy soldiers had invaded his kingdom and had taken his father captive and had taken control of the kingdom, so he was going back and forth. The prince started living with the Brahmin-son in the Brahmin’s house.
One day a Gandharva girl named Anshumati saw the prince and she was fascinated by him. The next day Anshumati brought her parents to meet the prince. He also liked the prince. After a few days, Lord Shankar ordered Anshumati’s parents in a dream that the prince and Anshumati should be married. That’s what was done.
Along with observing the Pradosh fast, Brahmins used to worship Lord Shankar. With the effect of Pradosh Vrat and the help of Gandharvaraj’s army, the prince drove away the enemies from Vidarbha and started living happily again with his father. The prince made a Brahmin-son his prime minister. It is believed that just as the days changed due to the effect of Pradosh fasting of Brahmins, in the same way Lord Shankar changes the days of his devotees.
