Story of Saphala Ekadashi:
In ancient times there was a king named Mahishman. The king had expelled his eldest son Lumpak for his wrong conduct. After getting evicted from the country, he started living in the forests and he could not sleep due to cold on Paush Krishna Dashami night. By morning, Lumpak fainted from the cold. After half a day, when his unconsciousness ended, he started collecting fruits from the forest. In the evening, after sunset, he cursed his fate by eating the fruit, and the whole night, remembering the Lord, sought forgiveness from within and wished to return to his father.
In this way, unknowingly, the fast of Saphala Ekadashi was completed by Lumpak and the Lord was pleased with him. Due to the effect of this fast, Lumpak improved and his father also handed over his entire kingdom to Lumpak considering the son to be worthy and himself went for penance. After ruling righteously for a long time, Lumpak also went to do penance and after his death he got a place in the world of Vishnu.
