Interesting facts about Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel
Sardar Patel was married to Jhaverba Patel in 1891 till he was only 16 years old. After marriage, at the age of 22, he passed matriculation. Patel had a dream since childhood to become a barrister and study in England.
Before going to England, he studied law from Gujarat and after passing the bar examination, practiced law in Godhra, Borsad and Anand of Gujarat.

At the time of the election of the President of the Congress Party in 1946, 12 out of 15 regional Congress supported Patel. Gandhiji’s support was for Nehru.
Patel left the post for Gandhiji’s wish and Nehru got the post. Nehru was the first choice of Gandhiji for the post of Prime Minister and Patel was the choice of the people. Because here Gandhiji wanted Nehru to become the Prime Minister of the country, so he was given the post of Prime Minister.
Sardar Patel’s first and major contribution to the freedom movement was in the Kheda struggle in 1918. He also successfully led the peasant movement in the Bardoli Satyagraha in 1928.
After the success of the Bardoli Satyagraha movement, the women there gave the title of ‘Sardar’ to Vallabhbhai Patel.
The 182 m (597 ft) high iron statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (Statue of Unity) was constructed in front of the Sardar Sarovar Dam of Narmada in Gujarat. This is the tallest statue in the world. It was dedicated to the nation on 31 October 2018. The height of the Statue of Liberty is only 93 meters.
It was the vision of Sardar Patel that the Indian Administrative Services would play an important role in keeping the country united. He laid great emphasis on strengthening the Indian Administrative Services. He called the civil services a steel frame.
