Shivshahir Babasaheb Purandare passed away in Pune today. Babasaheb Purandare is undergoing treatment at Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune. However, he lost his life during the treatment. He was 100 years old. The whole of Maharashtra is in mourning over Babasaheb’s demise.
Babasaheb Purandare’s health had deteriorated for the last three days. He was admitted to Dinanath Hospital in Pune due to pneumonia. However, during the treatment, he breathed his last at 5:00 am this morning. His body will be laid to rest at his home in Parvati at 8 am and after 12 noon at Vaikuntha Cemetery in Pune.

Babasaheb Purandare was born on July 29, 1922. His original name was Balwant Moropant Purandare. However, out of love, he was called Babasaheb. Babasaheb gave more than 12,000 lectures on Shivcharitra at home and abroad. So, for almost seven decades, he worked on history research.
He was honored by the Maharashtra government in 2015 with the state’s highest civilian award, the Maharashtra Bhushan. He was honored with the Padma Vibhushan award for his work in history research.
Notable work of Babasaheb Purandare
Babasaheb Purandare wrote descriptive writings on historical subjects. Apart from that, he also wrote fine novels and plays. Directed the historically acclaimed play ‘Janata Raja’. ‘Savitri’, ‘Jalatya Thingya’, ‘Mujaryache Manakari’, ‘Raja Shivchhatrapati’, ‘Maharaj’, ‘Shelarkhind’, ‘Purandaryancha Sarkarwada’, ‘Shanvaravadyatila Shamadan’, ‘Shilanganacha Sonam’, ‘Purandar’s Burujavarun’, ‘Kalavantinicha Sajaja Literature like ‘Maharajchi Rajchinhe’, ‘Purandaryanchi Naubat’ etc. have been published. 16 editions of Raja Shivchhatrapati have been published and more than 5 lakh copies have been published.
