Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri registered a big achievement against Nepal in the final of SAIF Championship. Chhetri scored in the 49th minute of the match. Along with this, he also equaled 80 international goals of Argentina’s legendary footballer Lionel Messi.

Currently, the record for scoring the most international goals among active footballers is in the name of Portugal’s star player Cristiano Ronaldo (115 goals). Messi and Chhetri are jointly second in this list. Both have the same 80-80 international goals.

India captured the SAIF Championship for the 8th time


The Indian team defeated Nepal 3-0 to capture this trophy for the 8th time. Nepal’s team reached the final for the first time. Chhetri, Suresh Singh and Sahal Abdul Samad scored for India in the second half.

Suresh and Samad scored in the 50th and 90th minutes


Suresh scored in the 50th minute and Samad scored in the 90th minute. In the first half, India won in terms of ball control but the goal could not be scored. Chhetri gave India the lead by scoring a goal within minutes of the second half

A minute later, Suresh doubled India’s lead. This is India’s first title with head coach Igor Stimac. He became the third foreign coach after Jiri Pesek (1993) and Stefan Constantine (2015) under whose guidance the Indian team won the title.

Chhetri gave India the lead with a goal off Pritam Kotal from the right flank. A minute later, the Indians again attacked Nepal’s defense and destroyed it. Suresh scored this goal. Manveer Singh also came close to scoring in the 52nd minute but his left footed shot was blocked by the Nepalese goalkeeper. Samad scored the third goal for India in the 90th minute.
